The aging of the eyes is often often felt like a tired facial appearance.

The first changes usually appear to 35/40 years. Wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, puffiness then combine variably. The loosening of the skin is greater in the upper eyelids, while fat pockets appear mostly at the lower eyelids.

The blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that corrects the stigma of aging eyelid (surplus skin, fat pockets, tarsal release).

The blepharoplasty is generally carried out as an outpatient. It is usually performed under local anesthesia, sometimes under general anesthesia. It lasts between 1 and 2 hours.

On the upper eyelids, excess skin is removed, possibly with small fat deposits located in the inner corner of the eye when it exists. The incision is virtually invisible because hidden in a natural crease.

On the lower eyelids, two scenarios are possible:
1 / when there are fat pockets: removal of pockets will be by transconjunctival incision (inside the eyelid without external scar). If there is a significant excess skin, there will be a small external scar located along the lash.
2 / when there are dark circles and not « pockets » it is probably a poor distribution of the fatty layer at this point that gives the appearance identified. In this case, a spreading of this fat layer is formed by transconjunctival incision. Sometimes it need to add a little thin injection fat (lipo-filling) to remodel the region and make it perfectly smooth.

Postoperative periods

The possible disadvantages of a blepharoplasty are: bruising, edema, discomfort to occlusion of the eyelids, watery eyes, sensitivity to light. They just disappear gradually after a few days.

By the fifth day, the sutures are removed in case of scars outside the eyelids.

Wearing tinted glasses is recommended until about day 15.
Sunblock is recommended on the scars for 2 months.
At the end of the second month, you will have a clear idea of the final result, but we must keep in mind that the appearance can scale up to 12 months.

Our opinion

Rejuvenate the look is not limited in general to the eyelid surgery. Remove excess skin or bags under the eyes do not allow themselves rejuvenated look. It will take approndi clinical examination to act on the signs of periorbitalaging (wrinkles in the crow's feet, fat melting cheekbones, easing the tension of the lower eyelid) and obtain an effective and natural result.
